These coaches help simplify the shift toward clean energy.
Dear Reader,
“It appears America is falling in love with heat pumps, which is a tall order for an appliance,” purports this story on our Bluedot site. “They use tricks of physics to extract warmth from wintry air and bring it inside, a far more efficient way of staying toasty than with gas furnaces.” Heat pumps are so sexy that climate communicator Sarah Lazarovic has dressed up like one — and danced about it.
But some people remain daunted by heat pumps, unmoved by their appeal. And that’s where today’s Climate Champs come in. Volunteers … who coach people on adopting heat pumps. As this story on the Spark notes, “Marblehead is one of more than 60 municipalities across Massachusetts that have a heat pump coaching program through the all-volunteer statewide organization HeatSmart Alliance. Co-founded by a retired engineer and a former energy consultant in 2020, the organization conducts multiple online sessions each year to train coaches, who learn how to help their neighbors navigate the often complex process of swapping out their heating and cooling systems for heat pumps.”
Given the amount of misinformation around electrification — with regard to cars, heat pumps, wind turbines, and more — anything that demystifies clean energy and moves all of us in that direction is to be celebrated. And today Dot celebrates the volunteer heat pump coaches of Massachusetts!
Gratefully,
Dot
