Dot’s final day of giftmas, plus how to make the most of your favorite candle.
Dear Reader,
Dot is increasingly averse to … stuff. As I progress through the second half of my life, I find myself dedicating far too much time to disposing of the possessions I accumulated in the first half. So when Dot’s Middle Child, a sensitive lad with a poet’s soul, gave me an essential oil diffuser a year ago, my response was an unenthusiastic ‘oh.’ I even toyed with the idea of discreetly returning it.
But Middle Child has big feelings, and so, in the interest of being a good mom and a gracious gift recipient, I tried it out. My response, at the whiff of the lovely scent that emanated from the simple bamboo diffuser, was a very enthusiastic ‘oh!’ The fragrance, though subtle, was divine. And, sure, a diffuser might not be necessary, in the strictest sense, but it will undoubtedly be very much appreciated by guests and visitors as well as by those of us living with it. (We pet owners sometimes worry, as our noses have acclimatized to our furry friends’ odors, that our homes are a bit smelly. A diffuser remedies that!)
Dot has therefore selected this gorgeous diffuser from Juniper Ridge for our final day. (Juniper Ridge are the folks from Dot’s 7th Day of Giftmas who turn last year’s Christmas trees into sustainably made candles, room spray, incense, and bath and body products, all bearing the seasonal scent of fir.) The simple lines of their natural bamboo wood diffuser don’t command attention, but rather blend into your decor, releasing just enough scent to nudge your nostrils into delight. If ceramic is more your vibe, then good news! — Juniper Ridge offers an adobe ceramic diffuser, too. Need some essential oils (sustainably sourced and harvested from wild plants, every drop distilled in the company’s Oakland, CA, workshop, of course)? Then more good news!
If you are a stickler for necessity, then I offer up another product from Juniper Ridge that we all need — soap! But let’s raise the bar with one that smells sublime. Choose from scents that encapsulate the West’s great wild places, including Cascade Forest, Redwood Mist, Desert Cedar, and more.
So that’s a wrap on Dot’s 12 Days of Giftmas, Reader. I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour through Bluedot’s new store, The Bluedot Living Collection. And I hope you’ve found just the right gifts for all the people on your list.
Generously,
Dot
