Dot is back with more reasons to Feel Good this Friday!
Let’s start with this bit of news about Exxon postponing a plastics plant in a community on the Gulf Coast, thanks to a dogged 77-year-old environmentalist challenging them in court. (As an aside, Dot finds it amusing and a bit annoying that stopping or slowing down polluters is too often framed by the media as a win for environmentalists, as opposed to a win for people who like to breathe.) Diane Wilson, an internationally recognized activist said to Inside Climate News that, “How a community reacts is extremely important, and it’s extremely important that you do it in the beginning, Move fast and don’t let up.” A message we should all take to heart.
Next up, good news for those of us who think secondhand is first rate. The Conversation takes us inside a Swedish mall dedicated entirely to items that were previously loved. Established in 2015, ReTuna, the story tells us, “is not just a retail space. It is a municipality-led experiment in circular consumption, where everything sold has been donated by the public.” The mall’s layout mimics a typical mall, and customers love it (check out the photos!). Could we see a secondhand mall stateside? Dot hopes so!
