Today’s quote comes from a 7-minute video created in 2019 to give all of us a glimpse of a future in which, theoretically, a government has implemented key parts of a Green New Deal. The video has earned more than 1 million views on YouTube, perhaps in part because, for a lot of us, it’s hard to imagine this future — one in which pipelines are dismantled so that bayous can be restored by workers paid good union wages, where people undertake well-compensated care work. But, as AOC says, speaking to us from the future, “the first big step was just opening our eyes and imagining it.”
