And help migrating birds by turning out the lights.

“As it turns out, weaning the planet off fossil fuels would mean far less mining and a sharp reduction in useless economic activity. Forty percent of the world’s ship traffic, for instance, consists of moving coal and gas and oil back and forth across the ocean to be burned, a delivery job the sun accomplishes each morning as it moves across the heavens.”

– Bill McKibben, from “Here Comes the Sun: A Last Chance for Climate and a Fresh Chance for Civilization”

Dear Reader,

Bill McKibben’s quote from his newest book, Here Comes the Sun, says what Dot is growing tired of saying: We have clean renewable energy sources that are cheaper than ever, that cannot be hoarded, that do not start wars. May they continue to spread

Exhaustedly,

Dot

Climate Quick Tip: Nighty-Night, Lights! For the benefit of our bird friends, turn out lights at night, including exterior decorative lights. It’s especially important to keep exterior lights off during migration seasons. If lights are essential, aim them downwards, away from where birds might be resting, or use motion-sensitive lights. The less light, the better for birds at night, especially during migration season.
