And a tip to repair scratched wood furniture.

    Dear Reader,

Let’s hope for clear skies tonight and tomorrow night so we can take in a lunar eclipse. Moonwatchers anticipate about 58 minutes of totality, and we may even notice a reddish hue (hence its moniker, “blood moon”). Do a search to determine when you can view it and at what time.

Speaking of moons and stars, it’s “Old Stuff Day,” an admittedly made-up holiday (though … aren’t they all?) ostensibly to celebrate all things elderly and vintage, which, I suppose, includes Dot.

I am a sucker for old things, including vintage sweaters that belonged to my mom, old books that belonged to my grandfather, and old furniture that has made its way down through generations to find a place in my home. (And I love old pets, especially my turning-grey-in-her eyebrows Cali.)

If you’re also a lover of old stuff, you might sometimes find yourself with a beloved piece of clothing that bears the stains of years past. In which case, let me share a fabulous resource I came across — a website dedicated to helping de-stain our clothing

Speaking of “old stuff,” last week’s “scrappy cooking” post encouraged Daily Dot reader Freya to send in this idea for what to do with the produce in your fridge that’s looking a bit … old. “In a clean bag, save clean bits of celery, onion, peppers, carrots that aren’t looking good in the freezer,” she wrote. “Then when you have a fair bunch, toss them into water and boil them to make a broth, strain out the veggie bits to put in the compost. …  good broth from stuff that otherwise might have been discarded.”

    Maturely,

    Dot
