Honoring Jane Goodall and making a positive impact.
Dear Reader,
Like Dot, you likely heard about the passing of the extraordinary Jane Goodall on October 1, 2025. And like Dot, perhaps you, too, paused to recognize just what a huge impact she had on the environmental community and beyond.
Not only was she a pioneer in science, demonstrating a new way of looking at and studying the natural world, but also, she was a pioneer for women, refusing the professional and social confines within which women of her era were expected to be content.
Whatโs more, she empowered all of us to acknowledge our impact on the world around us: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you,โ she said. โWhat you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
By example, she taught us that kindness is strength and that curiosity is a superpower. She encouraged humility, saying that though humans โare the most intellectual species to walk the planet,โ โฆ โweโre not intelligent. If youโre intelligent you donโt destroy your only home.โ
Our world lost a giant among Climate Champs with Jane Goodallโs death. This video from the Jane Goodall Foundation and PBS Nature makes clear just how remarkable she was. Give it a watch.ย
Rest in peace, Jane.
Grievingly,
Dot
