Cool tech helps us map and monitor the fall migration.
Dear Reader,
Perhaps you’ve noticed it, too — a bit more quiet in the trees? (Except for those extremely vocal blue jays!) Those of us in the north are not imagining it, though as the folks at Cornell’s All About Birds remind us, “some days are quiet while others are packed with new arrivals.” The migration of birds is underway.

And tech can help us experience and enjoy it!
Try out BirdCast, which provides real-time radar data to provide a numerical snapshot of birds flying overhead en route to their winter homes. A migration forecast provides a three-day window of what birds to expect in your region.
But perhaps most importantly, the site provides advice on how we can help protect the more than one billion birds that die annually in the U.S. from collisions with glass. We’ve lost one in four birds since 1970. From window decals that alert birds to glass to dimming our outdoor lights at night, there’s much we can do.
Flightily,
Dot
