Eden Foods
As Bluedot’s marketplace editor — and a person who takes food very seriously — I stock my pantry with great care. Eden Foods is one of the companies I rely on most. Since 1968, Eden has offered wholesome and organic foods such as beans, whole grains, and traditional Japanese macrobiotic staples. The company works with farmers close to its Michigan headquarters and its newer California warehouse, as well as farmers in Japan, South America, and Europe. (See their sourcing map here.) A few Eden Foods I always have on hand are their canned beans, seaweeds, Furikake Eden Shake, Toasted Sesame Oil, and Mirin.
In many ways, the company retains its early pioneering spirit. For instance, while most Eden Foods are USDA Organic, the company chooses not to use that label because they don’t believe that the USDA certification goes far enough to meet its standards. Eden began using BPA-free cans in 1999, a decade or more before most consumers had even heard of forever chemicals.
