Oregon-based Steelport Knife Co. creates hand-forged, heirloom-quality sustainable knives and kitchen tools. The employee-owned company makes everything in Portland using American materials. “Craftsmanship without compromise,” the company’s motto, speaks to the company’s “SharpForever” guarantee. Steelport offers free lifetime sharpening. The handles are made from Big Leaf Maple burl (sustainably harvested by another small Portland company) and give each knife a unique, rustic elegance. Steelport’s newest release, a bench scraper, is a delight to hold and to admire. Our marketplace editor, who has long used the Betty Crocker scraper she received as a bridal shower gift, loves Steelport’s elevated tool. She uses it to clean the counters, move ingredients from place to place, and to cut and serve soft items such as frittatas. While not inexpensive, Steelport’s thoughtfully made knives are true investment pieces, and will be a joy to use for years to come.
