Puzzling has undergone a revival since the Covid-19 pandemic first stranded many of us at home. That’s when our marketplace editor’s new stepmother introduced her to Wentworth Puzzles. Designed, printed, and produced in Wilshire, England, Wentworth puzzles are laser-cut from wood about one-eighth of an inch thick. Putting together a Wentworth is deeply satisfying. Each sturdy, weighty piece fits so precisely next to its brethren that making a match is a tactile thrill. To add even more excitement, each Wentworth contains beautiful “whimsy” pieces in shapes related to the puzzle’s theme. Advanced puzzlers will enjoy shaped puzzles with uneven edges. Every exactingly made puzzle can be played for generations. Puzzles range from around $17–$322, with most 250-piece puzzles costing $55. The company also offers custom photo puzzles.
