McGolrick Park’s Eastern Redbud tree has been awarded a spot on NYC Parks’ “Great Trees of New York City” list, joining over 60 other iconic trees, according to the NY Parks Dept. and Greenpointers.

This tree’s selection joins 30 others throughout the borough, including several American Elm trees; Camperdown Elm trees in Prospect Park near the Boathouse and the Green-Wood Cemetery; a Chinese Parasol Tree in the Rock Garden of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden; the Japanese Pagoda tree at Prospect Park near the Boathouse; and Weeping Willow trees on Sixth Ave. in Windsor Terrace and in Marine Park.

Created in 1985, the list recognizes trees for their cultural and botanical significance, though this is the first update to the list in over a decade. Readers wanting to read more about the Eastern Redbud and all the great trees growing in Brooklyn can visit the Parks Department’s website.
