Dot’s back with this week’s Just One Thing. This one’s a simple but powerful action you can take from the comfort of your home.
The What: You can play a role in encouraging those who rank climate action high on their priority lists to get out and vote. Environmental Voter Project is a nonpartisan nonprofit that identifies eco-minded voters and encourages them to become regular voters.
The Why: Perhaps you heard? There’s an important election coming up in the fall and our climate could use a little help from policy makers to ensure its health. Electing politicians who prioritize clean energy, and the health of our air, land, and waters, goes a long way toward creating the type of systemic change we need.
The How: Sign up to make calls around the country, send postcards, or canvas in your area. EVP makes it really simple with a method that protects your private information (calls don’t come from your phone number), and they provide you with a script. At no point are you telling voters who to vote for. What you are doing is encouraging them to vote and ensuring that they have the information they need, including where to vote and how they might get there.
