The MTA heads into 2025 facing uncertainty after the State Assembly and Senate last week rejected the agencyโ€™s $65.4 billion plan to fix and upgrade New Yorkโ€™s mass transit system, Gothamist reports. This presents a setback for MTA Chair Janno Lieber, who called the plan necessary to keep subway, bus, and railroad service in good repair. Assembly and Senate leaders cited a funding gap as the stumbling block.

Lieber was notified about the planโ€™s rejection on Christmas Eve, Gothamist noted โ€” a day before it would have taken effect had Albany leaders let the bill lapse into approval.
