Applications for an e-bike trade-in program for food delivery workers are now open, the city Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced on Monday, Jan. 27.
The first-ever municipal program of its kind, this initiative will enable eligible food delivery workers to trade in uncertified electric bicycles or non-street legal mopeds for safer certified e-bikes and certified spare batteries, at no cost. DOT hopes to reduce the risk of deadly e-battery fires, often caused by uncertified equipment, and to enhance street safety by getting faster and heavier illegal mopeds off the streets.
