BROOKLYN โ€” New pizza trash cans are available for Brooklynites!ย Announced by the Parks Department last Friday, the initiative aims to reduce trash overflow and deter rodents by providing dedicated bins for empty pizza boxes.ย All pizza boxes must have been emptied of any food, which park goers should either take home or dispose of in trash bins.ย Five parks across the city โ€” Saratoga Park in Brownsville, Loreto Playground in the Bronx, Father Demo Square in Manhattan, Sobelsohn Playground in Queens and Jenniferโ€™s Playground in Staten Island โ€” will harbor the specially designed bins. The bins are modeled after the classic red-and-white checkered tablecloths seen inย pizzerias.

The pizza-trashcan program follows a successful pilot in Central Park, where officials reported fewer clogged trash bins and an increase in recycled cardboard.
