Breville Smart Oven

Cooking for two can be an exercise in sustainable thinking for the eco-minded cook: Will we really eat these leftovers? Does it make sense to run the dishwasher? Should we use the oven? Bluedot’s founder keeps at least one answer on the kitchen counter: Breville’s Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro. The small(ish) but mighty appliance cuts back on energy usage by 50% or more compared to using the oven. In addition to serving as a toaster and an oven, the Smart Oven air-fries, proofs bread, broils, dehydrates, and more. The 1-cubic foot of interior space can accommodate a 9” x 13” baking pan, a 13” pizza pan (included), and even a 14-pound turkey. Another Bluedotter and Smart Oven convert reports that the convection setting and air-fryer basket deliver “crisp tofu and chicken tenders for four, without the oil.”

Breville, an Australian brand, is slowly making improvements on its manufacturing and packaging sustainability. For instance, they say that all their packaging will be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025. But the main reason we’ve chosen to highlight their Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, aside from the energy savings, is that two of our own believe it’s a great product. As many companies design items with planned obsolescence, Breville offers good customer service and continues to make products that seem designed to last — two things we will always appreciate.
