Prana Activewear

In 2010, outdoor and yoga apparel brand Prana was one of the first clothing companies to partner with Fair Trade USA. In 2021, they introduced plastic-free packaging for all direct-to-consumer sales. By 2025, they aim to make everything with “preferred” fibers like recycled and organic materials, hemp, and tree fibers like Tencel Lyocell. In addition to having good business practices, they make clothes with clean lines and wearable designs. Our L.A. Editor, Robin Jones, loves their workout dresses and recommends their tops and sports bras for yoga. Kelsey Perrett, Bluedot’s Digital Projects Manager and co-author of Moon New England Hiking (on Amazon), says: “I’m a big fan of their pant sizing for short people.” Many brands don’t offer different inseam options for women’s outdoor pants, while Prana does. Their men’s line has similar options.

Prana’s parent company, Columbia, continues to use a fair amount of virgin materials in their garments. We wish that Prana published its own impact report, independent of Columbia and Columbia’s other subsidiaries. That would make it easier to identify what materials Prana uses and better assess its overall practices. But, overall, we think that Prana makes durable, quality clothes, and we recommend their activewear.
