Description

This Blue Spirulina Mermaid Bowl gets its stunning ocean-blue hue from blue spirulina — a natural algae extract known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Unlike green spirulina (which can also be used in this recipe), blue spirulina has a milder flavor and is rich in phycocyanin, a compound that is linked to immune support and cellular health.

Instructions

  1. Blend smoothie ingredients until smooth and pour into a bowl. Use just enough liquid to blend the ingredients – keep it thick and spoonable, not sippable.
  2. Finish with toppings of choice and enjoy.

Notes

Green spirulina powder can be used in place of blue.

Freezer Tip

Save fruits and veggies that are on their way out by chopping and freezing them for future smoothie bowls. Beyond berries and bananas, try cucumber, zucchini, sweet potato, or even squash for added creaminess and nutrition. You can also freeze liquids like fruit juice, coconut water, or leftover smoothie in ice cube trays to use later — perfect for quick, no-waste blends. Store pre-portioned ingredients in reusable bags or containers, then just add your liquid, powders, or other unfrozen add-ins when you’re ready to blend.
