Earthwatch Expeditions
Does attaching transmitters to Pacific leatherback turtles sound like fun? How about counting fish while snorkeling in Bali, or helping researchers uncover fossils in Zambia? We think so! You can do all of this and much more on an expedition with Earthwatch, a not-for-profit travel company. Since 1971, Earthwatch has been “empowering individuals to take collective action through scientific research and conservation” in fields like biodiversity, archaeology, and climate change mitigation. Expeditions range from easy to strenuous, and give people the opportunity to participate in ongoing research that can create real change. One early program led to the creation of the Cape Cod National Seashore; other Earthwatch groups discovered a new species of spider and a new dinosaur. Upcoming adventures include Conserving Wild Bees and Other Pollinators of Costa Rica, Restoring Coral Reefs in Bali, and Unearthing Ancient History in Tuscany. Trips cost as little as $255 a day.
