Misfits Market

Misfits Market is an “online value grocer dedicated to making affordable, high-quality food more accessible while helping break the cycle of food waste.” It recently acquired Imperfect Foods, another online grocer in the business of selling “ugly” produce. Both have fans here at Bluedot. Our San Diego Editor, Nicki Miller, has been using Imperfect since the start of the pandemic. “I Ioved the idea of saving food that couldn’t be sold in stores, like small avocados or extra-large zucchini. Or chips in old packaging.” Nothing she’s ever received has been expired, Nicki assures us, although sometimes you might “need to eat the peaches pronto.” According to the company’s Impact Report, Misfits rescued an astounding 55 million pounds of food in 2022. Another plus: They’ve created a system to help customers return packaging inserts for reuse and recycling.
